Action. What a nice word.
Some of you know what I’m talking about. The idea of doing something positive or experimental. All actions are experimental of course, even the ones that require you to do the same thing as last time. Only, this time, it’s different, because it’s a different instance of the same action. You’ve learned. You’ve made progress. You’ve striven a little or a lot the last time, and you’re better. OR, very likely, there WAS no last time, because you’ve always been THINKING of doing something like this, but never got around to it.
Well. Congratulations. You’ve begun something. You’ve taken a step. You’ve imagined it. You’ve studied or read something about it. You’ve talked to someone about it or prayed about it.
Every step of action ─ whether it’s your first step in something or your 437th step ─ is a first step. Everything behind you was a foundation. It’s a memory. It’s a thought. It’s a recording in your mind, heart, and body of what occurred before this, even if it was only the “dreaming phase.” So I will remind you who are timid souls, just as I’m reminding myself:
Every action is a first.
It’s awfully scary. Even exciting.
From the platform, I leapt.
I felt the cold air against my skin.
But I was too busy to complain,
because it was all
so much fun.
