Poetry, prose, and quotes often have different meanings or interpretations based on the reader’s life experiences. Below, I have offered my initial inference of what the words above mean to me. Please feel free to leave yours in the comments section so that other readers might realize a more diverse interpretation. (The context in which the words may have been originally presented, and by whom, are not the primary issues, just what the words might mean to us, or for us, individually, in the now.)

My interpretation of this quote: What we are is the synergistic manifestation of our beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. As such, what we are cannot really be obscured by situational actions or verbiage intended to impress or obscure.

Goal Achievement Quote – June 19, 2012

“If we do not rise to the challenge of our unique capacity to shape our lives, to seek the kinds of growth that we find individually fulfilling, then we can have no security: we will live in a world of sham, in which our selves are determined by the will of others, in which we will be constantly buffeted and increasingly isolated by the changes round us.”
—Nena O’Neil

My interpretation of this quote: We each possess a distinct and unique set of skills that can, if nurtured and developed, steer us towards success and happiness. It is always our choice as individuals to willfully develop our personal potential …or not. If we choose ‘not,’ our options and choices throughout life are substantially more limited.

My interpretation of this quote: One cannot escape his/her character. The way a person treats others will be the reflection they see on the faces of the people they encounter.
