Goal Quote – Apr. 23, 2014

“The good news about bad news is that it puts your life in perspective very quickly. You realize that there is family, friends, and your health; nothing else really has value.”

Goal Quote – Mar. 25, 2014

“The most pernicious aspect of procrastination is that it can become a habit. We don’t just put off our lives today, we put them off till our deathbed.”

Goal Achievement Quote – Aug. 14, 2013

“I want to do the right thing, but often I don’t know just what the right thing is. Every day I know I have come short of what I would like to have done. Yet as the years pass and I see the very world itself with its oceans and mountains and plains as something unfinished, a peculiar little satisfaction hunts out the corners of my heart. Sunsets and evening shadows find me regretful at tasks undone, but sleep and the dawn and the air of the morning touch me with freshening hopes.”
—Carl Sandburg

Goal Achievement Quote – June 19, 2012

“If we do not rise to the challenge of our unique capacity to shape our lives, to seek the kinds of growth that we find individually fulfilling, then we can have no security: we will live in a world of sham, in which our selves are determined by the will of others, in which we will be constantly buffeted and increasingly isolated by the changes round us.”
—Nena O’Neil

Poetry, prose, and quotes often have different meanings or interpretations based on the reader’s life experiences. Below, I have offered my initial inference of what the words above mean to me. Please feel free to leave yours in the comments section so that other readers might realize a more diverse interpretation. (The context in which the words may have been originally presented, and by whom, are not the primary issues, just what the words might mean to us, or for us, individually, in the now.)

My interpretation of this quote: We each possess a distinct and unique set of skills that can, if nurtured and developed, steer us towards success and happiness. It is always our choice as individuals to willfully develop our personal potential …or not. If we choose ‘not,’ our options and choices throughout life are substantially more limited.

Goal Achievement Quote – June 18, 2012

“Discipline in its highest notion is not punishment or self-punishment. It is rather something seminal to the self. It is our foundation. It is our architecture. It gives us structure. It allows us to steer our energies and pull our wagon.”
—Noah Benshea

My interpretation of this quote: Developing the ability to do what is necessary instead of what might be more enjoyable or preferable will determine our level of success in life.
